Welcome to Waldhofhalle!

As you wander through Waldhofhalle you will discover places that serve as my homebase for certain activities. In Schwarzwald I conduct my social activities here at AncientWorlds and at Germania. Eisengard is for my historical and academic pursuits. Finally, in Runeloren you will find my game playing scores, statistics and artifacts. Thanks for visiting Waldhofhalle!

The Germanic Peoples

Many Germanic peoples as the Visigoths, the Ostrogoths, the Alemanns, the Burgundians, the Langobards and the Vandals emerged from the woods and and marshy fields of Northern Europe. In 50 B.C. Ceasar had understood that these peoples could be dangerous enemies. Thus, he had strictly prohibited them to cross the Rhine or the Danube.

The Tribes

Every people is devided into many tribes. Every tribe is headed by a chieftain. Because the chieftains or petty kings are elected, their authority is not inlimited. Their decisions can be rejected by a majority of free warriors. Every tribe is responsible for the crimes which are cuased by its members. Cowardice is the worst of all crimes. It is a shame for a warrior to leave his shield on the battlefield unless he is killed.

A Germanic Conflict

The shaman said:
In the future we will have to choose one of two things:
either to stay in contact with the tree of life,
and submit ourselves to the flush of impulsions of the tree of life
or to break away from the connection.

Tyr and the Fenrir Wolf

The Fenrir wolf said to Tyr:

"If you bind me so that I can't get free, then you will sneak away so that it will be a long time before I get any help from you. I don't want to have that ribbon put on me. But rather than be accused of cowardice by you, let one of you place his hand in my mouth as a pledge that this is done in good faith."

Each of the Aesir looked at the other then and thought that they were in a fix, and not one of them would stretch forth his hand, until Tyr put out his right hand and laid it in the Fenrir wolf's mouth.

Now when the Fenrir wolf began to struggle against it, the band tightened, and the more fiercely he struggled the firmer it got. They all laughed except Tyr. He lost his hand.
