Welcome to the Domus of Atunis Volumnius!
Atunis is my Etruscan name, but you may recognize me better as Adonis, the handsome youth, and the only mortal, that the goddess Venus fell in love with when one of Cupid's arrows went astray & struck her in the thigh. On this Etruscan bronze mirror you see me on the far left, sitting on her lap. I was fated to die from the mortal wound inflicted by a wild boar I hunted, and the hour of my death was sealed by the goddess Athrpa, shown here about to strike with her hammer the fatal nail she holds at the top of the mirror. To the right is another tragic victim of fate, the hero Meleager, who waa killed by jealous relatives after he awarded a boar's head to his beloved Atalanta, who had joined him in the hunt. That's Atalanta there on the right, resting with her spear and arrows afer killing the terrifying Caledonian boar that gored & killed many of the heroes from the Trojan war who had joined Meleager in hunting it down.
Here's a death-bed shot of me, Atunis/Adonis, the lad sitting on Turan/Aphrodite's lap, now dying after being gored by a boar, as lovingly carved & painted on a terra-cotta cover for an Etruscan ash urn:
