Welcome to my Per! I hope you have fin looking around!
I am a writer of short historical fiction. I also write a few poems every now and then; I only have one Egyptian one, though. In 2001 a story of mine won second place in a contest at the community art center near where I live, and just this past year one of my stories won another contest.
My main historical interest is Ancient Egypt, but I do like American Indian, Mayan and Jewish history as well.
My main focus in Egypt is the 18th Dynasty, mostly the Amarna period. I very much enjoy learning about the commoners in Egypt and how they had to live, as well as the Pharaohs and Queens.
I am also an artist. I like to sketch people from ancient civilizations and I like to paint. I usually paint landscapes or still-lifes, but I have one Ancient Egyptian one of Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
In May of this year I had the privlege of visiting Chicago, Illinois, where I explored the Oriental Institute museum, the Field Museum, and the Art Institute Museum. The Oriental Institute was AMAZING They had the most awesome things in this room that was tiny compared to other museums, and this included at least three mummies, TONS of little amulets and things like that, jewelry, and, if you can imagine it, a GIGANTIC Statue of Pharaoh Tutankhamen!!!! It was 27-feet-tall, I think. It was enormous! And so well preserved! They even had a piece of painted plaster flooring from Amarna!
The Field Museum was hosting the Eternal Egypt: Masterworks from the British Museum exhibit, which was the whole reason I went to Chicago. It was so cool! They had parts of the papyrus of Ani, the lion of Amunhotep III, a huge granite head of Amunhotep III (That would have gone on a statue the size of the King Tut one in the Oriental Institute) and so many other things, it would take too long to name them all!
The Art Institute Museum was pretty interesting. It didn't have a lot of ancient things, but they did have a nice collection. It was a very nice museum, they have some amazing paintings!
Sincerely,
Henut-Wedjebu
(Henut-Wedjebu was a singer in the temple of Amun during the reign of Amunhotep III. Her husband was the overseer of the mansion of the Aten. Her mummy can be found at the St. Louis, Missouri, Art Museum. The coffin, which has been opened but mummy not disturbed, is black resin with gold detailing (See Picture Above). If anyone knows more about Henut-Wedjebu, even a very small detail, please contact me, I am very interested in learning everything I can about her. Thank-you.)
