Hello and welcome to my home. My name is taken from two different goddesses, both of bars and Kash. :D As you wander through my home, I hope to give you some information about these goddesses. I hope you enjoy your visit.
NINKASI
Ancient Sumerian goddesses had all the good jobs, IMHO. Ninkasi was such a one. She was the goddess of "beer", AKA Kash.
She started out her illustrious career as being a goddess who healed Enki, after he'd ticked off Ninhursag (another wonderful goddess with a posh gig). Ninkasi was born of the "sparkling waters" and is said to have "satisfied the desire" and "sate the heart".
According to Zecharia Sitchin in his book, "The Sumerians" (© 1963, pages 110 & 111), "There was a special goddess in charge of beer preparation called Ninkasi, a name which seems to mean literally 'the lady who fills the mouth. Although she was a goddess 'born in sparkling-fresh water,' it was beer that was her first love; and she is described in a hymn of glorification addressed to her by one of the devotees of the Inanna cult as the brewer of the gods who 'bakes with lofty shovel the sprouted barley,' who 'mixes the bappir-malt with sweet aromatics,' who 'bakes the bappir-malt in the lofty kiln,' and who 'pours the fragrant beer in the lahtan-vessel which is like the Tigris and Euphrates joined.'"
Yeah. It's good to be a Sumerian goddess....
