Irrasshaimase!
I have built my home in honour of my mother, Lady Murasaki Shikibu, the famous Japanese author who wrote The Tales of Genji, the first -some say greatest - novel written.
My name is Daini no Sanmi, also known as Lady Kataiko. I am a court poet of the Heian period (794-1191). Please join me in the garden for tea. If you have read Genji, you will enjoy playing the clever graphics quiz, Scenes from Genji's World.

Yugao also lives here and has quicky become king of the household. He is a friendly regal Pallas cat - an endangered species - who was bestowed upon me by the esteemed Egyptian goddess Bast. He is especially fond of sake sashimi (raw salmon) and cream.

Arimayama
Ina no sasawara
Kaze fukeba
Ide soyo hito o
Wasure ya wa suru
As Mount Arima
Sends its rustling winds across
Ina's bamboo plains,
I will be just as steadfast
And never will forget you.
