Bast is the goddess who protects cats. The Ancient Egyptians also loved cats. So much so that injuring one or killing one brought severe penalties--even death.

Bast is said to be one of the daughters of Ra, the Sun God. Consquently, she was originally a Sun Goddess. It wasn't until contact with the Greeks that she was a Moon Goddess. She was associated with Artemis at that time.

Bast is also the Goddess of pleasure, music, dancing, and joy.
