The sirens call of the Naiads. Isn't this a beautiful painting! The Naiad holding Hylas hand has a look of complete childlike innocence of intent and modesty. Her rapt attention solely on Hylas's face and her interest in him, is purely that of her concern for who he is. Well befitting the nurturing and healing attributes of the Naiads reputation. Although, in myth Hylas was never again seen after his visit with the Naiads. Must we wonder why? I wouldn't have come back either. This painting was done by John William Waterhouse . 1890
