Welcome to my Council House!Chief Nemathla of the Seminoles lived right here. This area in North Florida where I live and work is rich in archaeological sites (for North America!) From Paleoindian, Archaic, Weeden Island, and Mississippian to contact period and beyond. All within a few miles of here. Also here were manys struggles between Native Americans and Europeans. I am writing this in the exact location of the Apalachee Town of Anhica, later captured by DeSoto. About four miles from here is Mission San Luis, ite of a Spainsh Mission and Apalchee Indian comunity.Years later Native Americans from any diffrenet tribes all attled here and becaome known as Seminoles. Around 1800, William Agusutus Bolles led the Seminoles to found the short-lived Nation of Muskogee with its own port, and privateers. In 1818 Andrew Jackson fought the Seminoles here and by 1824 Chief Neamthla reluctantly gave up this area for the capitol of Florida.
Florida is indeed a land of romance. On a a warm summers night it is easy to watch the spanish moss on the old oak trees gently float in the soft summer breeze and to imagine that the ghosts and spirits of the past are still here.
Visit my Council house (above left is restored Council House at San Luis) and together we'll listen and explore the peoples and legends of this "La Florida"
