I spent the better (qualitatively-speaking) half of the day on 5/14 assisting my buds in raising a Ger. It will serve as a nomadic travelling Ger - they'll take it on camping events. It's not complete yet, but the essential structure is prepared and up. This Ger (Mongolian for "home") is being constructed from scratch, not from a kit. The lattice-work is collapsible.
I was ready to use the photos here in my Virtual Ger, but the USB port cable from the camera to the computer has gone awol.
This Ger is approximately 15 feet in diameter, and is about six feet tall at the edges. The center ring, of course, is far higher. It was created for reusability and easy portability - the real Mongols of yore would make new Gers (the Russian word is the more familiar "yurt") wherever they found themselves out of material at hand. And likely with a lot less debate than we had!
The background graphic on this page was adapted from an image of the Mongolian Dark Old Man (Spirit of Songgina) And thanks to a special Someone for pointing out I spelled "Virtual" rwonggg. I have now corrected.
Circuit City to the rescue! Uploading photos from the event. As you can see, we were finishing up in the dark. We threw a tarp over this so as not to let the wood warp too much. When I left, the buds were stenciling a black Asian dragon on the door.
This is all serendipitous. Neither of these guys responsible for the designing of the Ger are big on being on the Internet, other than the use of e-mail.
