It is said that a man's home is his castle. In my case, my castle is a cave. Beneath the brow of lofty Tintagel, home to Gorlois and Igraine, I spend my time in the pursuit of knowledge. Rarely do I consort with those above. I prefer the natural world; a quiet cave, a windswept moor or a cloud-capped peak are more to my liking. For company and conversation, I have the animals of the forest and the birds of the air. These bring me the news of the world and the doings of man.
And speaking of man, or men, there is one thing you should know. There is but one man who I trust and admire. He is the son of my heart, if not of my loins, though I did play an important part in his conception. That man is Arthur, King of all Britons. He is our sword against the Saxons and our shield against the tyrannies of petty kings. In a manner of speaking, you could say I am one of his knights.
