More than twenty-five hundred years after his lifetime, IMOHTEP was apotheosized as Egypt's god of medicine and credited with a divine power to heal.

Ancient writings mention a great sanctuary he had at Memphis, a combination of temple and sanatorium that from at least 300 B.C. on was the Lourdes of ancient Egypt.
