Although the Orient wasn't a part of AncientSites and is the newest world in AncientWorlds, some of the seeds for the Orient were sown in a group in old Tara called Alliance which included such topics as the Mongol Hordes, Cultures of the Pacific, and East of Babylon.

Here at AW, The Light of the East, a group focused on the discussion of the history, culture, art and customs of Ancient and Medieval Asia, was established in February 2003. In the summer of 2003, jojo Nebuchadnezzar posted his vision for an Oriental "city" in his journal. The rest is history, as they say.

The original planning commitee members were Sankira Qin, Lalita Ashoka, and Hapshetsut Nebet, with jojo as the consulting demi. The Orient launch took place during the 2004 Springfest, beginning with Sankira's Orienting Yourself Tour and finishing with an exciting Race along the Silk Road.

The Orient has hosted many entertaining and educational events, ranging from the grueling Climb Up Mt. Everest during the 2005 Springfest to the most intriguing Sung Tzu's Apprentice, a murder mystery set in the Song dynasty, during Lunar Fest 2006 to the shopping spree, A Day in Edo during the 2006 Goldfest. Who could ever forget The Great Bean Hunt during our very first Lunar Fest back in 2005 or the brilliant operatic production of The Legend of Lady White Snake which was staged at this year's Lunar Fest?

We're sure all of you who worked so hard to make The Orient a reality, and those of you who have adopted our world as your home or participated in our festivals have many memories. We do hope you'll share them here!
