Ceremomial Dance
"The dancing ceremony began at dawn with the cleansing and purification of the stone people lodge (sweat lodge). Then the leader and his assistants prepared the people for the dance. The face of each was painted. Forehead, cheeks, and chin bore circles, cresents, and crosses that symbolized sun, moon, and morning star. Colors varied, but red, the color of Wi the Sun became the color of the Spirit Dance among all the western tribes...No other part of the body was painted, for Spirit Dancers were fully clothed."
