The Far Reaches of Hellenism
The enactment of Alexander's genius: three centuries of creative impulse, movement, passion, wisdom, art, science, books... the transformed and transforming world of Hellenism. New culture, the time in which the world began to be modern. The Greek and the Oriental: the world in its complete shape. The oecumene is the inhabited world where the intelligence speaks Greek. The head is Alexandria, but the heart is Athens.
Here to talk about Seleucides in Asia, Ptolemies in Egypt, Antigonides in Macedonia... About interesting women like all the Arsinoes and all the Cleopatras... Greek astronomy and science led to an astonishing development of the image of the world. Movement and realism in art led to consider the anthropos on its particular existence many centuries before existentialism.
Let's learn and recognize how in many sense we have not ceased of living within the rar reaches of Hellenism.
