(History) According to the ancient Lacedaemonians, the first residences of Sparta- Lacedaemon were Pelasgi. The first city was named by the name of a Pelasgic king name, which was Lelex and thus the country was called Lelegia. We may assume that this was the beginning of Sparta’ s prehistory.

(Archaeology) Sites of the Late Neolithic date have been excavated in Laconia, but these finds have not been determined successfully yet. On the other hand, lithic and other materials that probably are characteristic of the largely undecorated style of wares have been identified in other site in Laconia of the same date. Handmade large shapes characterize the Neolithic pottery in Laconia. The excavations’ finds signify the highly developed ceramic of Laconian sites during the late Neolithic and Helladic Ages.
