We all know the legend of the Lady of the Lake? She had the highest position between all the Priestesses. What was her role?

What did a Priestess needed to do to become High Priestess and who decided the position?

What did a young girl have to do to become a Priestess?
Did all the girls who learned become Priestesses or where they some that failed the tests?
