Celtic satire has many faces. This is one example.

This traditional form of satire uses sarcasm in the context of exaggerating praise, or overexpanding certain qualities that the subject of the satire lacks. In other words, the Tar Molta exaggerates good qualities with a satirical intent.

Here is an example of what one modern bard has done with this old form. It is one of the easiest satire forms to understand. Create your own! Don't be shy. just remember that at Bardic College all satires must be directed either to public figures or unidentified persons. No personal satires please. Enjoy!

TAR MOLTA FOR MY EX WIFE (anonymous)

Queen of women in sweaty lust and beauty,
I bow before your starry studded throne.
To adore you is my sacred holy duty,
I live and die for you and you alone.

My lips are to your toes so tender pressed,
My hands await your slightest urgent need.
My heart is held by you in house-arrest,
My mind and body yours, the judge decreed.

Were I a blackbird cawing in the sun,
I'd sing a song of your true female bliss,
Were I the cunning fox upon the run
I'd lift a leg in honor of your kiss.

Your smile is like the lioness in spring,
Your hair shines like the haze of city smoke,
Your voice has a metallic splendid ring,
Your eyes make cailleach's look like a joke.

I miss your sweet caress when we're apart,
I crave the night when we shall meet again,
I need you like your chin needs one more wart,
But I lost your number and I don't know when.
