    Chengdu shrine offerings
Burning offerings of paper sacrifice money at Wenshu Temple in Chengdu

On 12 May, 2008, a 7.9 earthquake in China's Sichuan province resulted in massive damage and loss of life. In response to the tragedy, the families of the dead are building makeshift altars on which they then burn paper money and incense to honor their dead and to assure safe passage into the afterlife.

In this temple, please leave your thoughts and offerings for the terrible calamity that has befallen the Chinese people.

The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) has mobilized a relief operation. For information on the disaster, how to contact friends and relatives in China and how to help, visit the RCSS website.
