The how to & what not of composting in the garden for the garden (or the home).

Here we shall try to give composting a go about how to & what not
    for successful composting, not decomposing,
for your leaves, grass clippings, expired plants, food items & etc...

In short if your compost pile stinks, it's decomposing not composting.

    Composting versus Decomposing

      Compost
    • A mixture of decaying organic matter, as from leaves and manure, used to improve soil structure and provide nutrients.
    • A composition; a mixture.

      Composting
    • To fertilize with a mixture of decaying organic matter.
    • To convert (vegetable matter) to compost.
      Decompose
    • To separate into components or basic elements.
    • To cause to rot.

      Decomposing
    • To become broken down into components; disintegrate.
    • To decay; putrefy.
Yes, now you're wondering, isn't composting just decomposing? Well, yes & no. This is where the lines start to blur. Yes, because the refuse is being broken down into their more basic components. No, because if it breaks down too much, what good is going to be doing us if we had planned on using/mixing it to pot our new plants or areas of the yard? And if one uses it for other "dead" materials, well it can get really stinky...
