Er...what finer place be there than on the poop deck to enjoy your rum ration? A tavern is nice if your on land but on a ship I would not want to drink it in the fish hold or something. As for my appearance, I wanted a long-shoreman type look and this was the best I could find. Besides Popeye was a pirate. Why else would his theme song, "I'm popeye the sailor man" be sung to almost the same tune as "For I'm a pirate king!" from Gilbert and Sullivans' Pirates of Penzance?
