I hope this is not an "either / or" situation. I would opt for some fidgeting allowed. However, it should be kept low-key, so it does not get too annoying. In those public places where I frequently find myself (airports, train stations, doctor's office), the fidgeting seems to run rampant. Those over 35 all seem to have Restless Leg Syndrome, something I never heard of until a few years ago. Those under 35 are all plugged in, turned on and tuned out. The youngsters, primarily the boys, have their Game Boys and are busily punching away at buttons I can barely see. The teens are all dancing in their seats, each to the beat of a different drummer. If it doesn't spoil the serenity of the surroundings and doesn't annoy the neighbors, I say let them fidget to their heart's content.
However, the bane of my life is the cell phone. Most Americans do not exist unless they are talking to someone on their cell-phone. I met a friend in the store the other day. She smiled and waved and I did likewise. I thought she said something to me but, when I replied, she looked at me like I was crazy. Then I noticed the little gadget hanging in her ear. I just shrugged and went on my way.
So, my "This or That" is: Cell Phones or no Cell Phones?
