"You are sorry?", outrage hit her voice as he took her into his arms offering up her own key as if this would apologize for his cruel behavior. She could feel him trying to sooth her but it wouldn't be so easy. He had cut her to the quick and this woman did not like to be wounded. Her hand found his chest and gave him a heavy shove, "I am sorry. I thought you, if anyone, could trust me. Knowing all that you know... being creatures alike..." Stepping back from his arms, her gloved palm rose to offer him a crisp slap across the face.
Finding her way back towards the door, she took out her key and tossed it towards his chest, "You stay, be the master in my home, I must not be mistress, if you can be taken in and treated well and insult your hostess with such talk. Your words cut to my very soul. I knew you could never love... but I always thought we were friends."
She wouldn't let him see her break, her jaw steeled and her shoulders rose, "Robert will tend your needs beautifully for I have so instructed him. This hotel being secured you are safe in my home. I will not return here. I will not return to you, Simon." With that she gracefully exited from her own suite and rushed down the stairs, across the lobby. Her pride kept her going with a forced smile until she reached her own offices.
Her designs were too sharp that day, by the time her assistant demanded she go to lunch she was surrounded with balls of paper and discarded sketches. "He hasn't called." Sharp green eyes lifted to Luci, "I do not care, Cheri. There are not men in Paris anymore... Only little boys. Perhaps I shall return to my Daddy. I see the flowers have not stopped arriving." Luci nodded, "There are diamonds in the vault... blue and red. Very pretty brib... presents, madam."
Nettie smiled, "Bring me something scandalous to wear that will match the red ones... I feel like causing a stir at the Ritz. And ring up a handsome distraction... You know how I hate to dine alone."
