'Then the king himself appears in gold, silver, and jewel encrusted armor and a scarlet plumed helmet. _as Charlemagne's famous knight Roger, who has come with his knights from their enchanted island to entertain the ladies of the court. These are followed by Apollo in an immense and glittering chariot drawn by four horses and escorted by a multitude of elaborately costumed attendants. They rode up and down before the admiring guests. The bright walls, blue roofs, and gilded chimneys of the chateau served as a backdrop to their skillful horsemanship in the afternoon light. The tournament, which Louis retired from, was won by the brother of Louise de La Vallier. He was presented with a golden sword by the queen. Then after watching a charming ballet, the guests sat down to a supper, which was served at long tables in the garden.'
