I return to the hotel in the early afternoon, and I grab my notebook to start making progress on the investigation. I scan over the first couple of pages, notes from my visit with Brutus, my employer, from our initial meetings with some vague details regarding the art thief that I am investigating.
I have a sequence that I follow in all of my investigations (I'm one who when finds something that works well sticks with it). I start by observing the crowd and environment, not speaking with anyone. I have learned to be an excellent judge of character and mannerisms, which I use to my advantage as much as possible before I speak to them, which is the second phase of my investigation. Third is undercover work to wrap up any additional evidence required to close, and by phase 4, I take action, bring in my employer, report my findings, and close the case.
I take a seat in the corner of the drawing room with my notebook and a bloody Mary drink. The crowd is not heavy, but I am certain that the crowd will get busier as night falls. I settle in for a long wait, scribbling away in my book.
