The room chosen for our first party is enormous. The walls are high, and every inch of the place is covered in marble of all colors. Over the floor there is a blanket of rose petals so thick that it feels like a cushion under foot when one walks on it. All of the dining utensils are solid gold, and the quests are welcome to take the plate they ate from upon leaving. A large pearl is placed in every goblet that guests are also welcome to keep.
The dining couches fill the room and are all upholstered in tyrian purple. On the ceiling of the room a night sky has been painted. Oil lamps hang from the ceiling in the shape of constellations.
Now, on to what we'll be feasting upon.
Gustatio: Jellyfish and eggs
Sow's udders stuffed with milk and eggs
Boiled tree fungi w/ peppered fish-fat sauce
Sea urchins with spices, oil and egg sauce
Primae Mensae:Fallow deer roasted w/ onion sauce, rue Jericho dates, raisins oil and honey
Boiled ostrich w/ sweet sauce
Turtle dove boiled in its feathers
Roast parrot
Dormice stuffed w/ pork and pine kernels
Ham boiled with figs and bay leaves, rubbed with honey, baked in bastry crust
Flamingo boiled w/ dates
Secundae: Fricassee of roses w/ pastry
Stoned dates stuffed w/ nuts and pine kernels, fried in honey
Hot African sweet-wine cakes with honey
Entertainment this evening will be the scantily clad Dancers of Memphis, a public execution or two, a poetry reading featuring works from Catullus, and a private showing of Plautus's The Brothers Menaechmus.
Please feel free to discuss whatever pleases you from the decor to what your fellow guests are wearing. You can also gossip about what's been going on around the empire as long as you're sure the ear you're telling isn't also equipped with a mouth that runs off. Of course, these are only suggestions. Now, on to the festivities!
