That's what it was called way back when. When the site was known worldwide as Ancient Sites, our land was called Babylon.
I remember reading the magazine, "Archeaology Now", at a Easter function at my grandparents' house in '99. On the back, I think?, was an ad for ancientsites.com. I was interested right off the bat! But, I didn't log in with Apil until sometime later in '99. Before that, my boss at the time helped me set up my persona and we used his nickname - Spud. LOL
Anyway, I didn't do much as spud65. I just kind of lurked a bit. But, when I created ApilIshtar (I thought at the time that Apil meant "beloved of", but was later told it actually means "heir of") I met many helpful and wonderful Babylonians.
The first ones I remember from those days were: Marduk, Apiladey, Zig and even jojo. :D I soon bought an Optimum Patronage and made a nuisance of myself on the historical threads. I also became friends with Marie Siduri and Flavia Amytas during those ancient and golden days.
I recall quite clearly that Marduk approached me, while I was still wet behind the ears, about doing a role play at the Babylonian Empire. First, I had no idea what "role play" was, and second, I didn't even know how to find this group! LOL But, he was patient and I created a character. He introduced me to one of my bestest friends on the 'net too. Maria Marius. :D
After having created Apil, I soon went to other worlds that held my interest. In Celtia, I was Aillinn MacRoth. In Rome, Diantha Livius. I had others, but these were my main gals. :D
When ancientsites went down, I was crushed. I had hope that we could recreate the wonderful virtual world at the vines, but that didn't come to pass. Soon, even they were gone and we were all left adrift.
When I heard ancientworlds had been created, I literally jumped for joy! LOL OK, so maybe not literally, but I'm sure I must have done at least a little Happy Jig in my chair. :P I found my first post: Hello All!. And the rest, as they say, is history.
