Sextus looked at Idris and smiled.
"Your advice is duely noted and appreciated. I think that the best thing for me to do at this point is to play it cool. I didn't mention this to you earlier but whenever she told me the news my reaction was pretty juvenile. I actually yelled obscenities at her and ran down the street like a frightened rabbit trying to get away. She must have loved the sight of me doing that!"
Idris emitted a whistle. He had to admit that it was totally unlike Sextus to lose control in such a manner but it only underscored how much he obviously despised Aricia. He didn't want to make Sextus feel worse by telling him that he had been a total idiot in reacting as he did and so he just patted his hand and tried to be nice about it.
"Sextus, any man would be hard challenged to take such shocking news in a calm manner. What you did is history. It is now up to you take control of the situation."
Sextus took another drink of his wine only this time it was like the old Sextus, no more gulping nor burping.
"This is her game and I will let her play it. She thinks that she's so clever, we'll just see who comes out on top. I know every twist and turn in her devious mind and I will be waiting around every corner for her."
Idris smiled at his friend.
"And I will be here for you in whatever capacity you need me."
Sextus gave him an evil grin and suddenly Idris felt something touch his thigh. Sextus had rubbed his foot against it from beneath the table!
"Sextus! I'm tring to be serious here and you're playing footsie underneath the table!"
If it hadn't been for the smile upon Idris's face and the tone in his voice as he said it Sextus would have thought his friend was upset.
"I can't help myself whenever I'm around you Idris. I'll behave...for now!"
Idris laughed. He was very attracted to this handsome Roman and the thought of future encounters with him was a pleasant one indeed but he steered things back to why they were here.
"Sextus, are you alright with everything then? I mean as far as it stands?"
"Yes I am Idris. All I can do at this point is wait and see what Aricia does next and knowing that I have your support is a great comfort to me."
The two men finished their wine and cheese and Sextus paid the bill. As they were ready to leave Sextus turned to Idris.
"One more thing. May I stay the night with you so I don't have to make the trek back to Green Acres tonight?"
Idris was surprised but not shocked by the question.
"Sextus, I have absolutely no furniture in my apartment and it may be a while before I will. I'm just happy to have a decent roof over my head."
Sextus took him by the hand.
"Come on my friend, we are going shopping. When we're finished you won't be able to decline my request. One apartment full of furniture coming up!"
