Here is a partial bibliography of references I have used in researching Ravenna. This list contains only those references which are part of my personal library. I have yet to compile the list of references I have used, but don't own.

    1. Thordeman, Bengt. Opuscula Romana vol X No. 2: Il Cosiddetto Palazzo Di Teodorico A Ravenna - Un Palazzo Reale Longobardo? ISBN: 91-70420-0432. Stockholm: Swedish Institute in Rome, 1974.

Comments:Includes pull-out tourist's street map of Ravenna with locations of public buildings and monuments. Succinct text and excellent photos especially the gold. Heavy, gloss paper.

Comments:Part of book dedicated to mosaic art history with analysis of some famous mosaics and part details practical applications and techniques for mosaic creation and preservation. A fine survey of mosaics with many color photographs and line drawings. *One flaw in the book is that many images and tables are referenced in the text of the book, but no identifying figure numbers for any image or table.
    4. Cole, Emily, et al eds. The Grammar of Architecture. ISBN:0-7607-7445-5. China: Barnes & Noble, Inc. 2005.
    Format:Soft Cover Size:8 x 9.5
    Pages:352 Index:Yes

Comments:Grammar is classified by major styles from Ancient Egypt to Picturesque with a following section on architectural elements. It is a poor attempt at a proper grammar. There are errors and the glossary is not to be trusted. There are many images and some that are difficult to find elsewhere. Unfortunately, they are poorly presented. This book is not worth the cover price, instead find it used for under $5. *Technically there is color, but each section is presented in a unique monochrome color scheme. There is no true color.
