~ FROM EGYPTIAN LEGEND, MYTH OR HISTORY ~

In 42bce, the Queen of Egypt Queen Cleopatra VII would know of her next lover, he would be Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony). Antony summoned Queen Cleopatra to the city of Tarsus in the Roman provincia of Cilicia, this was the capital of Mark Antony’s Eastern Roman Empire.

As Aegypt was considered a client kingdom of Roma and therefore part of Antony’s Eastern Roman Empire.
Cleopatra was supposedly summoned by Antony to explain her conduct, ~ The conduct in question was:

”Upon hearing that her lover Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Roman Senate (S.P.Q.R.) by his rivals to the Roman throne and to Caesar’s authority.”
”History has recorded that, Cleopatra, her son Ptolemy XV (Caesarion) and that of the Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar had returned immediately to the protection of
    Aegypt.
“It is stated that Queen Cleopatra was requested to remain in Roma, with Caesar’s son and thereby would be able to claim the Roman throne for “Caesarion” Caesar’s son.

It was the opinion by Caesar’s supporters that Cleopatra’s lack of assistance in destroying Caesar’s murders lead to the expansion of the civil war that broke out after Caesar’s death and thereby leading to the division of the Roman Empire.
Since it had taken Cleopatra several months to respond to Antony’s summon to appear at Tarsus, Cleopatra was sentenced in absentia and was to be punished upon her setting foot in Tarsus.

It has been stated that Mark Antony upon seeing Cleopatra once again, on her royal barge in Tarsus harbor was enchanted once again by the beauty of the Queen of Egypt. And thus decided not to have her punished for her lack of assistance in the destruction of Caesar’s murder’s.
It is also said that Mark Antony fell in love/lust with Cleopatra and later in 41bce returned to Aegypt as the Queen’s lover and Protector. As such world power makes strange bedfellows and it was said that Antony was devoted to Cleopatra.
But it was also believed that Mark Antony’s real reason for summing Queen Cleopatra to Tarsus was, “Antony needed the wealth of Aegypt to continue his agenda to be the single, and sole ruler of the Roman Empire. For this he would needed more gold or silver, military and political support from the eastern provinca’s and client kingdoms, especially Aegypt the wealthy.
