I joined Ancient Sites in the spring of 1998 having stumbling across it much in the same way many people did, while searching for something else.

    Back Story:

With a 10 year old IBM, win 3.0 OS, a whopping 1.19 Gig hard drive, and entire 16 Megs of blow your hair back RAM, and having safely avoided it for years, I finally fell in with the rest of civilization and went “online” (naturally, it was with the biggest resource hog in ISP history, AOL).

While searching through Ask Jeeves for Archaeological Dig Vacations, wouldn’t you know it! The third link down took me directly to that beautiful black and gold with flames and all…the front page at Ancient Sites. And, the rest they say is history.

I joined right away. Hell, I loved it so much that even with only 16 Megs of RAM, a dial-up connection through AOL and the demons that had been trying to keep me away with their notoriously slow load times; I still managed to come in several times a day!

Over time, I finally did face the situation and bought a new computer, dumped AOL and hooked up with DSL just months before AS crashed for the last time. Heartache nevertheless, I will always laugh when I think about clicking on an AS link and knowing I had time to prepare a meal and throw in a load of laundry before the page would fully load. LOL

Btw, I did manage to save a copy of the PP from the moment of the big crash.

If you do not remember me, I was one of those who enjoyed jumping into other people’s conversations with a one-liner… or four, as well as being known both Hither and Yon, for my extra long run on sentences, with whom many have tried but none have prevailed to best, even though they gave it their bully best, including Petraities, who turns out to be one of my biggest fans and without whom I never would have become the darling of AS Worlds Champion Golden Belt of Jot holder for the most intelligent and compelling flame war debate/opinion ever written or DASWCGBJH for short.

    Pet, I humbly thank thee.

It might be history to you, but it is always humor to me J

I met a dozen or so very wonderful people throughout AS (some in person) who I keep in contact with and love dearly! It really does bring people together from all over the world!

    Happy Anniversary!

Always, Tiamo Domitius (Yes, I now know how to pronounce that name correctly)!
