    One of the points that Ward-Perkins makes in order to disprove the gradual evolution theory is that the economy of the Eastern Empire was unaffected by the fall of Rome. This is in sharp contrast to the collapse of the economy of The Western Empire. The East did just fine for quite some huundreds of years.
