Caius Fabius, was a long-time and highly valued member of our community. He was a gentleman of great learning who was always willing to share his expertise. He did so with unfailing kindness and courtesy so that one never felt inadequate or culpably ignorant when asking for help.
Many people have told me how frequently Caius helped them and how much they appreciated his advice. I can say from personal experience that he was never too busy to untangle my inadequate HTML or to elucidate matters of military history for me. When I was a member of Imperium, he straightened out my confused accounts whenever I asked. And I asked often.
After I left Imperium, Fabio and I continued to talk frequently. In particular, I benefited from his insights regarding the Roman State Religion and its effect on Roman law. He was well-read, and was highly skilled at linking data together into a whole that made perfect sense. I will miss his comments on religion and law very much. Mostly I will miss his humor and his wry comments on matters modern and ancient.
One does not realize how much a person is a part of one's life until he or she is gone. Fabio was an invariable influence for good. And I will miss that influence in my life.
