Ye gods, that's not quite like finding Shakespeare's bar bill behind a wall in Stratford, but - Tolkien translating Beowulf? Oh, too, too good to be true!
LOL - I know Aelius hoped to get a discussion going on Beowulf this January, but I'd be happy personally to wait until I can read Tolkien's version.
One of the things I find resonating throughout the Lord of the Rings trilogy is all that Tolkien imbibed from the Norse sagas, from the heroes of legend to the actual names of their swords. And there are times when his writing seems to fall into almost an epic verse pattern of speech.
To see what he could do with the REAL thing would be wonderful.
