I've been experimenting with the background too... just use your normal "background-color: #rrggbb" bit in the .content part and there you go...
plus if you do change your background colour, you may want to get rid of the scroll watermark. Otherwise you get this big black graphic which stands out like a sore thumb... To do this you insert this coding into your style sheet, just as it is:
.pageStyleSheetBG div { background-image: url('http://www.ancientworlds.net/aworlds_media/ibase_1/00/05/83/00058394_000.gif') !important;}
plus you can add color to your pageStyleSheet (instead of the black) in the usual way (background-color, etc) to change that as well.
