30 to 40 emails a day either trying to sell me something (usually medications/drugs or penis extensions... go figure!!) or stuff from banks saying "Dear Customer"...
That right there is a dead giveaway. If they don't address you by name, you can be pretty sure it's phishing. Also if your name is spelt wrong or your name is a combination of lowercase letters and uppercase: aSeNaTh AmEnHoTep
Any email that asks for account numbers, personal info or something to be verified is also phishing. Banks will never send out emails like this. At least not in Australia *G* We have been told adnauseum that these types of emails are to be deleted immediately. :D
Also ones from legitimate websites asking for account info. Ebay, Paypal, etc... I have had several ones from Paypal asking me to "verify" account details. I forward them onto Paypal. They request that you forward the email onto them as they try and track the origin of the email. (spoof@paypal.com) Whether they are able to track them, I have no idea. I do know that I'm getting less and less of the paypal ones so hopefully my little contribution has done something *G*
I'll add a seperate discussion thread for Hoaxes/Phishing etc as we can discuss freely and not interupt Toman's posts about Viruses. However everyone can freely post specific emails that they have received in the Virus thread. Just remember to post the name of the post in blue. :D
