    With torn nails, bleeding skin

    - on dirty knees in filthy dust -

    I caress, the vernal soil
    Thoughtful, digging in

    With aching muscles, swollen hands

    - on sore knees in swirling dust –

I kiss, stone by stone by stone
    Forever, where it lands

    With bouncing heart, growing pride

    - On burning knees in stifling dust –

I build, my sweet lavender road
    Endless, in a painful ride

    With crippled limbs, trembling feet,

    - On numb knees above any dust -

    I stand, for my love
    Now yields complete
