While my beliefs on this subject have been the same for quite a long time, I do think that the Catholic Church at that time, (and well into the twentieth century) was extremely corrupt, so yes, I do believe, aside from adhering to laws dictated by Jesus Christ, the Gospels in the New Testament, and Old Testament; the church was mostly interested with keeping its position of power in society. While being a devout Christian myself, I also have a very big interest in magic, LOTR, D&D, etc. etc. I'm a huge fan of classic rock, and heavy metal (Ozzy Osbourne rocks).
However, this doesn't keep me from critisising the many mistakes of the Church, who claims to act in the name of God (examples would be, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Auto de fe, etc. etc.)*
I'm glad you liked Volume 1, I intend to publish 2 or 3 more volumes! Like you said Shi Mei, it's such a vast topic, I could fill volumes, but I don't think I'll go that far :).
For your further entertainment, I'm republishing one of my previous works, its pretty short compared to my last work, but interesting nonetheless. Its called Diviners of the Far North, and since I'm over half Scandinavian, this one fills me with some pride ;).
*In penance for past misdeeds, Pope John Paul II, made a public apology in 2000. And in the defense of Christianity (the faith, not the religion) Jesus said that their would always be those who said they were Christians, but who were really not.
Matthew 7:21-23
21"Not everyone who says to me 'lord, lord' shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven.
22Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesised in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'
23And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!"
