    Ave, comrades!

I am Brutus Crassus. I have fought as a Gladiator in the arena for many games. I started as a Retarius, or 'net man'. My opponent was a Murmillion, or 'Merman'. The Merman had better armour than I did, and was armed with a sword and a shield, but his helmet narrowed his vision enough to even out the odds. I was dressed only in a loincloth and boots, with a metal sleeve and shoulder-plate as armour. My weapons were the trident and the net, as well as a small 'puglio' or dagger.

It drove the crowds wild when I used to taunt him, by calling out "Here little fishie, into my net you go!" I still remember the cheers and roar of the crowds. It is what a Gladitator lives for.

I have also fought as a Beastarii, killing bears and lions, and as a Dimacchia, fighting with two swords. I have fought in couples, man against beast, and man-against-man.

It is surely an honour to be part of a Ludi again, especially with the skilled Gladiatrixes that I have seen here so far.

    Salve,

    Brutus
