Sugar
F. L. Simpson
(May 13, 1997)
She came to me on little cat feet,
With catly grace and cat face sweet,
With silky soft fur so very pale,
And a long and slinky, delicate tale,
And she made a home in my heart.
Her squeaky meow and her gentle purr
Let me know I could talk with her,
And we've lived together in peace always,
And she made a home in my heart.
I've grown older now, and she has too,
And I sit and wonder what I will do
When my sweet little Sugar must go away.
There is very little that I can say -
She'll leave a hole in my heart.
I'll have my memories, and pictures too
Of my dear little cat whose love was true.
And I'll hope that in the Great Somewhere
She'll find a home and be happy there.
But there'll still be a hole in my heart.
(Sugar died of old age near the end of 2000)
