Actually the Active X problem is, in the words of some software technician, "a feature not a glitch". It was installed by microsoft deliberately during the last patch so they can get around having to pay royalties on a patent infrigement suit.
There is a way to get around it, as you can tell from the main page here, but it involves creating a separate javascript file and then using the javascript on the page in question to call to the javascript (and not directly to the media file).
But that means the only person who can fix it is someone with editorial powers for the page in question.
On the other hand, it's currently a "feature" unique to IE. If you use Netscape/Mozilla you should be fine (although that may be temporary; the patent suit decision would equally apply to all web browsers using plugins. The javascript solution would work in case that happens.).
