Heraklia, I'm not sure I admire Brutus (and wouldn't you think that I would?). His conspiracy has always left me asking more questions.
What did he really want? Only the death of Caesar? With so many conspirators why was there no plan to follow-up a successful assassination? Could Brutus have been so out of touch with Roman politics thathe truly anticipated a spontaneous renewal of the Republic? Had he no awareness of what Antony might do?
How can you admire a man so ludicrously inept with his success? And yet his subsequent career as general and republican leader in exile is not without much to admire.
No, Heraklia, I do not admire Brutus. I am not even sure that is the right question!
