    Welcome
    WELCOME !!
I am Merit Sithathor and I live in the capital of Iunu. Welcome to the Prospering Sceptre!

We live on good fertile land here, northwest of Memphis, but close enough to the King's per to go to court if one wishes. If you stand on your roof when you awaken on a summer morning, then you can see the Great Pyramids and Sphinx just across the River.

Further away are the homes of the Blessed Dead at Memphis and Sakkara.

Because we live closer to the Great Green Sea than Memphis, the merchant ships stop here first, so there's fine shopping to be had. We are also close to the fine vineyards and farms of the Delta.

    Some Questions:

    "What's so special about Iunu?"

Iunu was the third largest and most important city in ancient Egypt, after Thebes and Memphis. It is covered by the modern city of Cairo.

The prevalence of Solar cults in the area led to the building of the world’s first obelisk at nearby Abu Ghorab by Fifth Dynasty King Niuserre Iny.

Heliopolis, as the Greeks later called Iunu, was the home of one of the world’s oldest creation myths, featuring the nine gods of the Ennead who created the universe by various acts. It was a center of commerce, learning and culture for millennia.

"What would you like to do and see in the hood?"

I’d like to see social interaction, learning, and fun! I’d like to see our chat rooms used more so we can get to know one another.

I welcome anyone with an open spirit. Please join me in Iunu, Egypt!

I chose this community due to the influence that the cult of Re in Iunu had on Fifth Dynasty Kings, particularly Niuserre Iny. He constructed a Sun Temple at Abu Ghorab in addition to a pyramid for himself and also his two wives at Abusir. I realize that the monuments are closer to Sakkara than to Iunu, but all these solar centers so close to each other certainly had their effect.

I do know that Iunu was called An in the Bible, and Heliopolis by the later Greeks. During the reign of Ramsesses II, the city was home to a large solar temple, only discovered earlier this year under the city of modern Cairo. The only remaining standing ancient monument in Iunu is an obelisk erected by Middle Kingdom King Sesostris I. Ironic, since "Iunu" means "pillar."

Along with Thebes and Memphis, Iunu was a major city in ancient Kemet, and the center of the ancient Solar cult.

[Some of this was posted elsewhere, so I apologize in advance for the repetition. Just trying to entice new friends to my part of Kemet. I hope you'll join us...]
