I thought I'd make a post about some royal bios I've read that I would recommend. This isn't a full list as I could only carry so many books from the living room to the computer room in one go. LOL!!

These first few cover a bit of ancient history and I'd recommend all of them, I found them very informative and they didn't stray too much from the topics they were meant to cover:
    1. Ramesses: Egypt's Greatest Pharaoh - Joyce Tyldesley
    2. Nefertiti: Egypt's Sun Queen - Joyce Tyldesley
    3. Hatchepsut: The Female Pharaoh - Joyce Tyldesley

This next batch range from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and some are better than others:
    1. The Life & Times of Henry VIII - Robert Lacey
    2. Queen Isabella - Alison Weir (I found it hard to put this one down)
    3. Eleanor of Aquitaine - Alison Weir
    4. Lady Jane Grey: Nine Days Queen - Alison Plowden
    5. Mistress Anne - Carolly Erickson
    6. Anne Boleyn - Norah Lofts
    7. Royal Panoply - Carolly Erickson
    8. Catherine the Great - Joan Haslip

On this last batch I would very highly recommend Queen Isabella by Alison Weir - I originally ordered it thru a book club because I thought it covered Isabella of Spain, but I was not disappointed after reading it. *g* Norah Loft's Anne Boleyn is good, but she goes a bit far with the whole witchy angle and I was a bit disappointed in Carolly Erickson's Mistress Anne especially when she condensed Anne Boleyn's trial and execution into one rather short chapter. Erickson's Royal Panoply is quite good tho and gives a nicely rounded collection of short bios on all the monarchs of England from William the Conquerer to Elizabeth II.

I've also read both Antonia Fraser's and Alison Weir's Wives of Henry VIII and have to admit I found Alison Weir's edition more informative, especially for Anne Boleyn. I have another edition from David Starkey that I haven't started yet, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has read his. *g*

And as I mentioned, this isn't a complete list and I'll try to post the rest at some point this week for anyone interested. *g*
