Debbie Anderson, Researcher at the Dept. of Linguistics, UC Berkeley, has informed us that the symbols on the Phaistos Disc have been proposed for inclusion in the international character encoding standard Unicode (and ISO/IEC 10646). The proposal (see link below) was approved for balloting by the International Organization for Standardization's working group on character sets (WG2) a few weeks ago. By being included in the international standard, it will be possible to search on the various symbols on the Phaistos Disc within documents and across the Internet.
The proposal is located at: std.dkuug.dk/jtc1/sc2/wg2
You may send your comments on the proposal to the author, Michael Everson.
