I have a kernel of an idea for a roleplay character, but I will need some guidance with the history of Hungary and with tweaking her bio so it fits with the overall game plan.
In Deliver Us From Evil, Carmilla is a "lesser" Nederlander (Dutch) princess of the Royal House of Strijin - lesser meaning she will not inherit the throne. In the Underworld I would like to propose that she is "lesser" progeny of the Dukes of Burgundy.
Her real name is Adelaide of the House of Capet - a fictional character. Her brother is Charles the Bold (who didn't actually have a sister). She is married off to a Hungarian lord, who turns out to be a bit of a Bluebeard (based on Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, only she rescues herself in my version). I have no idea yet who he might be in the Hungarian schema. Any suggestions?
Unlike his previous wives, however, Adelaide has her own dark side. She's been bitten by the spirit of adventure and would not be denied her freedom. She drugs her husband (possibly with a concoction she pays Savina an arm and a leg for) to ensure he sleeps heavily at night and sneaks out to Obuda, where she wheels and deals in the underworld as Carmilla Van Hasding.
Not sure exactly what Adelaide's motives and skills are yet, except that she is favoured at court for her dancing and conversational skills, which she uses to her advantage, partly to keep old Bluebeard on his toes, but also to pry into the Hungarian court's dirty laundry; and she is a horseman and swordsman par excellence.
Any and all ideas and suggestions are welcome.
