I'd like to second Sav's welcome to everyone that has joined Of Cabbages & Kings and her hope you'll enjoy the group *g*
Since my cohort has left it to me to explain the name of the group, let me just say it comes of course from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There:
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes – and ships – and sealing-wax –
Of cabbages – and kings –
And why the sea is boiling hot –
And whether pigs have wings."
As for the Why? of it, well, it was my jokingly inspired response to Sav's demand for a name for the group and it just kind of stuck LOL. It appealed to my irreverent sense of the bizarre and personally, I think Sav agreed because she always likes an excuse to call me a vegetable....
If any more justification is needed, consider – if you go to a historical re-enactment, the chances are that unless you go to wilder ones than I ever have that it will not be the heads of peasants and other enemies that are being mightly smitten by knights and lancers to demonstrate their smiting prowess, but – cabbages. I'm assured by someone who knows these things (though, how he knows, I didn't like to enquire) this is because a cabbage has about the same resilience as a human head.
As Head Cabbage though, I am here to reassure anti-monarchists, revolting peasants and would-be revolutionaries that no one is going to be making sauerkraut out of us in this group and we hope you'll join in and enjoy our ambitious (and oft irreverent) scope *grin*
