The Cumhaills are a family of Irish Travellers (also called 'Tinkers' or 'Gypsies') who believe themselves to be descended from Fionn mac Cumhaill, the legendary Irish hero. They believe that their folk are all that remain of the Fianna - Fionn's band of wandering warriors.
Impoverished, Cuinn's family made their way playing music, raising horses, smithing, weaving, storytelling, and anything else that would put food in their bellies. When Cuinn was old enough to venture out on his own, he got hired to do odd jobs for Prof Henbane's Midnight Carnival. He sets up tents, builds theatres, drives wagons, sells his crafts, and even performs on the Uillean pipes.
Recently, he is aggrieved to discover the sinister nature of his employer. He is beginning to wonder how badly he needs the money. Badly enough to deny what he believes to be right?
