Colin grabs the winter gear, turning hard on his ankle to walk back to where Kat waited. "Ready then?" he asks her, a harsh tone. "I don't want to wait all night.
Annoyed with him, Kat tosses his skis down, "You need help with those?" Her boots thrust into the skis and then locked down, poles thrust into the snow as she pulls a cap on her head. "Don’t want you to fall out."
"I can manage them fine, thank you ver-ver" he replies, struggling to get the boot on. "WHOA!" he shouts, losing complete balance and falls back-first into a snow bank.
Looking down at him, she cant help but crack a smile "Want a hand with that?" Her brow arched trying to keep the laughter down as she offers a gloved hand towards him.
Colin bites his lip to keep from laughing - he wanted to maintain a professional attitude. But as soon as his eyes met hers, he couldn't help but laugh. "Alright then," he smiled. "I've proven my point. Let me get these blasted things on and we'll head out."
Laughing was all but impossible to stop with his assertion, "Charming, Agent. But I think you have no more time to be on your back tonight. We have work to do, and you're playmate will have to wait." She hands him the end of a ski pole.
With serious tone now, "There's no playmate Kat." Colin smiles slightly then turns, leading a path into the woods.
She laughs softly, "Right... no playmate. She was just part of keeping the cover." Her eyes roll as she follows him (but the view could be worse…).
"She was nobody," Colin replies softly. "Shh-" he rises a finger, listening into the night. "Nah- it's nothing. Come on."
She nods, and continue to travel beside him. "I think we are being watched..." Her words almost a whisper, "And she's nothing, just like me... part of job."
"Oh for the love of St. Peter you are not just part of the job, alright?" Colin says, turning back to her, exasperated. "You're more than that, okay? Happy? I said it. Please, let's just keep on course here."
Tilting her head, She studies him for a long moment. "Not truely... and the path goes to the right... but the foot prints seem to be headed back..." Not a good sign in her mind. She points towards the treeline just where the light hits it. A wild goosechase?
"I doubt that he would have covered his tracks along the way," Colin sighs. "I suggest we follow the footsteps. Do you agree?"
Nodding to him, her words now mouthed, 'I dont like this. Something isnt right here.' I point towards the path forward and then towards the path back, 'Why would he come in here and then go back?'
"Maybe he's depositing something..." He whispers. "Or picking up gear. If we venture further, we may find a hideout."
She shakes her head at him, 'He never made it that far... it seems like a trap...'
Colin nods, observing the footsteps. "I think you're right. What do you suggest?"
Nodding back towards where we came from, Kat suggests they just turn around. 'Cut him off?'
"Yes," He replies. "Great plan. Let's split up, try to catch him from both paths. We should cut him off before he gets back to the lodge."
'Not safe... ', she mouths at him. 'Splitting up from partner is against protocal... we dont have com gear.' She frowns at him, but night is falling and Odin could be in danger.
"You get back to the lodge, warn them that he's coming back," he tells her. "I'll go after him, following the tracks here. If you don't hear back in 30 minutes, know that something's up."
'I dont like that. Its against training.' He gives her an American look that indicated she was too far by the book 'Make that twenty. You better be in my room and in one piece or I'll kill you when I find you.'
"You got it," I promise. He hesitates a moment, watching her. "Stay safe," he says finally, then takes off silently, tracing the path.
Nodding, she heads back the way we came. Kat fears that she is the better skier of the pair but... someone has to watch out for Odin.
As she turns, Colin turns back, grabbing her arm. He pulls her close and kiss her lips, long and hard. "For luck." He tells her, a slight smile. Then, he turns back, following at top speed towards the track that led out into the night.
