Our household is home to myself, my love, and 6 dogs. 6 INDOOR dogs. I often feel like I'm running a doggie version of Romper Room around here. Given the number of baby gates I climb every day, I could probably win a high hurdling event!
I haven't figured out how to include photos in posts so I'll have to settle for giving you descriptions. Let's see... we've got Sam, the 11 year old psychotic border collie with small dog's complex. Sam likes to take on the bigger boys, usually to his detriment. Then there's Penny, my 9 year old greyhound who thinks she was a princess in a former life. She is a lovely sofa ornament and only complains when meals are late or there's no space left for her on the bed. Clover is an 8 year old greyhound who is "challenged" - which is to say that she's always annoying the other dogs for reasons she doesn't understand. I regularly bail her out of trouble and act as her security. She rarely gets far from me. Rusty is a 3 year old greyhound/probably Scottish Deerhound mix. If Rusty were human he'd be that really irritating kid on the block who likes to pick fights then run to his mother. Sam hates Rusty and I have the vet bills to prove it.
Since my love and I moved in together earlier this year, he brought his two dogs - Crowley, a 4 year old greyhound, and Eli, a 3 year old greyhound. Crowley is a silent bully. He thinks HE'S in charge but he isn't blatant about making the point unless I'm not looking. He and Sam have had words. Eli is the quiet one. If he were human he would be the incredibly handsome guy who stuttered anytime a pretty girl spoke to him. Eli prefers to spend his time napping in our closet or hogging up our waterbed if I'm not in the room.
I love them all but they are a great deal of work. The bulk of my time is spent supervising and managing the pack. If they all got along, life would be simple. But since Sam insists that HE will be the only male left standing, I stay busy keeping track of him and monitoring everyone's behavior.
All total, I live with 400 pounds of dog. Last one to bed has to sleep on the floor. ;-). So, anyone else have this crazy a household?
