I don't know if this has been stated but the vintage, vineyard, region, date of creation, owner of the vineyard, all this information that was found on the wine bottle/boxes was not soley intended for connoisseurs but for official tax collectors...

Perhaps the MC could be some sort of Egyptian goverment agent or official who doing his weekly/monthly run...
